Hawkish US Senator John McCain must be “arrested” for his ties and “assistance” to al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups in Syria fighting against the government of President Bashar al-Assad, an American investigative journalist says.
“I don’t know why Senator McCain is not sitting in prison right now for appealing with members of al-Qaeda and affiliated members of al-Qaeda,” said Wayne Madsen, who is also an author and columnist specializing in intelligence and international affairs.
“John McCain is the real problem here, not President Assad, not the Syrian government,” Madsen said. “It’s time for Senator McCain to be arrested…he has done more to assist al-Qaeda than some of the foreign terrorists.”
In a report released in December 2013, the International Center for the Study of Radicalization (ICSR) said between 3,300 and 11,000 militants from over 70 countries were fighting against the Syrian government from late 2011 to December 10, 2013.
Several reports have shown over the past year that the US has been covertly training insurgents in Jordan to fight against the Syrian government.
Reports have also revealed that the US shipped weapons to Jordan in order to arm the foreign-backed militant groups.
