United States wants to be an empire that control the world. We just don't want to be challenged. Therefore, wars are used by the us to against any country that may challenge the out position under the name of protecting our constitution.
China is held together by rigid controls coming from Beijing. The US however is a voluntary alliance of several centuries of standing. Eliminate the Chinese Politburo, knock out their C4I and China will fall apart into regional governments with local warlords. Accomplishing that would be clever first step in any war with China. The local warlords resulting could then be isolated and dealt with as needed, when needed. Make 1 China 10 or 12 little tiny Chinas (many ludicrously weak due to past over centralization). Not a problem, would take about 40 minutes.

the US would destroy China's Navy as quickly as they'd like and who knows when they would allow China to rebuild a navy. That would leave China open to all regional enemies. China isn't that foolish.
