   First of all, everyone knows this story, and no one calls it the 1938 Halloween Disaster. Orson Welles read H.G Wells (not related) book War of the Worlds as a first person encounter. A bunch of people freaked out, a few killed themselves, but this story is blown way out of proportion. There was no massacre and it really was just lack of intelligence that panicked the population.
