Why is this old man talking in a foreign language so smiley about? PEOPLE DIED!!! I think that the biggest problem that 9/11 caused is still happening today. It caused people to become numb to other people's suffering. Not that it wasn't that way before, but every instance of such things cause people to become more numb. The USS Liberty was an American warship on patrol in the Eastern Mediterranean on June 8th 1967 during the Arab Israeli six day war.
After a number of "friendly" reconnaissance flybys by Israeli jets – where the identity of the Liberty as an American warship – was clearly established. Israeli torpedo boats suddenly arrived and began to launch a surprise attack.
They dropped five torpedoes in the water but the captain, Lee McGonagle, managed to dodge four of them. The fifth hit the ship with a massive explosion in the starboard side just forward of midships, killing 25 sailors. The ship did not sink but 2/3 of the crew were incapacitated with wounded and dying sailors all over the decks, "it was literally a bloodbath".
Soon after the first attack, three UNMARKED Israeli fighter jets arrived and began strafing the ship with 20 mm cannon and rocket fire killing many more of the young sailors. The radiomen tried desperately to call for help but discovered that ALL US SELECTED FREQUENCIES WERE BEING JAMMED by the Israeli's. Nevertheless, they eventually managed to get through to the sixth fleet and requested immediate assistance. No help was forthcoming that day as the US sixth fleet HAD WHITEHOUSE ORDERS not to launch aircraft to defend them.
Next came two Israeli fighter bombers which dropped napalm canisters along each side of the ship. Under fire, the crew battled the inferno and eventually managed to bring the flames under control.
After a brief lull three more Israeli torpedo boats arrived and began strafing the ship with their 40 mm cannon and 50 mm machine guns before dropping their torpedoes. One found its mark with another massive explosion and the command was given to prepare to abandon ship.
Three inflatable life-rafts were still seaworthy and were dropped over the side. THE ISRAELIS MACHINE GUNNED THEM. The crews life-vests were now their only hope for survival and the badly injured would never survive.
The engine room then managed to bring the boilers back to life and the ship had power. Damage control also indicated that the ship had miraculously stopped taking on water and had settled on a nine degree list to starboard. The captain wisely decided not to abandon ship.
Israeli helicopters carrying commandos then arrived and hovered near the vessel. Repel boarders were ordered. However, seeing that the ship was still under power and not as badly damaged as expected the Israelis called off their attack and all hostilities ceased.
The Israelis had attempted to destroy the vessel, they had tried to murder the crew of 294 Americans, and they planned to blame the attack on the Arabs in order to bring America into the war. The US government had been complicit in the attack and attempted to cover it up afterwards. As has every government since.
The US Navy told the surviving crewmen never to talk about the Israeli attack to anyone including their families and threatened them with heavy fines and lengthy prison sentences. Nevertheless, some have spoken out.
The USS Liberty is the most decorated US warship for any single engagement – earning 208 Purple Hearts for her desperate fight for survival.
This is not a good documentary at all. It is heavily biased and with arguments against the story as has been generally accepted. This is by people of the same ilk as those who believes that Elvis is still alive. A complete waste of time and bandwidth.
Intresting how this video fails to mention the uss Cole the uss Sullivan two embassy bombings and ksm. Additionally on a quick search I was able to find pictures of plane parts at the pentagon. This video is reaching for things that are simply not there.
