Chaotic scenes at Austria’s border with Hungary

(10 Sep 2015) Austrian police estimated that 5,000 people crossed the border at Nickelsdorf on Thursday alone.
A large crowd at the crossing rushed towards buses after false rumours spread that they would be taken to Vienna.
Police chief in the Burgenland district, Hans Peter Doskozil, said that most of the 5,000 arrivals had been accommodated in shelters in various locations.
Doskozil added that he expected the number of people crossing into Austria via Nickelsdorf to rise to up to 7,000 people a day.
