The military campaign in German East Africa during World War 1 went on longer than the whole war and thanks to Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck and his guerilla warfare is now infamous among the theatres of the great war. But what was the history behind German East Africa and was it really a gentleman’s war and what role did the Askari play in it?

So why are white people still angry.
War is not civilized. This is called Racism White Supremacy
Where did you get the quote at the 7 minute mark?
50000:1 kd ratio, Wish we cleaned up like that with the Soviets.
cool
Will there be any specials on the Rhodesian Native Regiment? I was brought up in a family who had ties to the Rhodesian African Rifles and who have always spoken highly of the native soldiers. There has also been a monument opened on the 100th anniversary of the RNR in the National Memorial Arboretum. It would be nice to hear more, and share more about the soldiers of the empire.
The Germans were brutal.
Hey Indy. i love your channel keep it up.here is my question .What was zanzibar role in WW1.thanks
Was Von Lettow, familiar with the jambok and it's frequent application on his askaris and native bearers ?.
So the European powers just kept their slaves in Africa…. out of sight, out of mind?
Hello Indy can you tell in a video What happen in Egypt during the war ? I'm very interested in
As you can see it wasn't just white men from Europe who committed rape or murder but also africans as well. And they all have on thing in common they were "men" who killed their fellow brothers in cold blood.
"All wars are civil wars, because all men are brothers". Francois Fenelon
do u have any information about Portuguese forces and battles in East and West Africa?
What was the kill rate for one german compared to one tribesman in the hehe war
von Lettow survived until after WWII and…was guest of honour of Afrika Korps vets meetings in Western Germany in 50ties and 60ties
What is it with the Germans in the 20th century and being so horrible that everyone unites against them?
Rommel's Afrika Korps widely used myth of Heia Safari from WWI
What about the foregin legion
i like how he pronounces MAJIMAJi Rebellion. hehehh funny accent
Is it true that some men from the tribes of askaris would join battles in their native, tribal outfits and would carry spears and shields. I remember reading it on the battle of Tanganyika.
This video is awesome, could I use it as a source for my history assignment 🙂
the only book on the subject i can think of off hand is Battle for the Bundu i dont recall the authors name
Will TGW do a special on Leopold's land in the Congo? Leopold 2 helped start WW1!
Are you going to make a video about colonial soldiers in the Western Front? It would be interesting to know about the French, German, and British colonial subjects in the Western Front.
Well they weren't as bad as the French in Algeria, or God forbid the Belgians in Congo.
WOW! Fantastic piece on Africa.
15 to 250,000?????
2:23
Thanks.
What a pointless FUCKING war
Thanks for the video! I appreciate the objective look at the German Colonies of Africa
