An Idaho State Trooper pulled over a 70-year-old man solely because he had Colorado plates on his car, prompting the driver to sue the officers and the state for license plate profiling.  The driver, Darien Roseen, was driving between his two houses in Colorado and Washington state, when an Idaho State trooper, Justin Klitch, pulled him over at a roadside rest.

Police State…70 Year Old Man Arrested for Having Colorado Plates

After pulling Roseen over, the cop, Klitch, was evasive about why.  It soon became evident that Roseen was pulled over because of his Colorado plates.  From the beginning the Nazi pig jackbooted thug state trooper insisted that Roseen had contraband in his car and he demanded to be allowed to search his car.  When Roseen refused, the trooper said that he would hold Roseen there until the drug dogs were brought in to sniff the car.  Roseen finally agreed to let the thug search certain areas of the car, so that he would not be delayed in getting home.

Once he opened the trunk, Klitch insisted that he could smell marijuana in the trunk and he used that excuse to search the entire car.  This despite the fact that there was a strong wind and moisture in the air from a recent rain.  He read Roseen his rights and placed him in the back of the cruiser, while he and another officer, Klitch had called for backup, searched the car in which they found nothing.

Klitch issues Roseen a citation for “inattentive/careless” driving.

Roseen is now suing the ISP for violating his 4th, 5th, and 14th amendment rights and he was unlawfully detained just because the officer saw his Colorado plates.  Roseen says that at no time did the officer say anything to him about reckless driving, only asking him about marijuana.  His lawyer, Mark Coonts, had this to say:

“We believe that Americans should be able to travel interstate highways without being harassed and unlawfully detained because of license-plate profiling.  Our client, Mr. Roseen, is a 70-year-old retiree who was returning from his daughter’s baby shower. He was stopped in Idaho and deprived of his constitutional rights because he was driving a car with a license plate from a state that ISP associated with marijuana.”

It’s time to get serious about pig treatment. Any time one is found to be abusing his/her power, they should be dealt with in the most extreme.
