Teen girl’s ‘skimpy’ outfit too hot for TSA

A 15-year-old girl wearing leggings, a tank top and a button-down T-shirt claims a Transportation Security Administration agent humiliated her, telling her to cover up as she passed through an ID-check line at Los Angeles International Airport on Father’s Day.

“She said the officer was ‘glaring’ at her and mumbling,” the girl’s father, Mark Frauenfelder, told Yahoo Shine.

“She said, ‘Excuse me?’ and he said, ‘You’re only 15, cover yourself!’ in a hostile tone.”

He said, “It shook her up.”

Frauenfelder, who is editor in chief of Make magazine and founder of the blog Boing Boing, explained that his daughter, Sarina, had been traveling with a group of high-school students on a trip to explore colleges.

After the incident, Sarina began texting her parents.

“I’m furious!” she wrote. “He was so rude and hostile. He made me feel like a slut.”

Frauenfelder, who posted a photo of his daughter wearing her ordinary outfit, blasted the TSA officer on his blog: “It doesn’t matter what she was wearing, though, because it’s none of his business to tell girls what they should or should not wear. His creepy thoughts are his own problem, and he shouldn’t use his position of authority as an excuse to humiliate a girl and blame her for his sick attitude.”

Yahoo Shine reported a TSA spokesperson would not discuss the investigation, but said the agency was “looking into the matter.”

Just after Sarina reported the incident to her parents, they arrived at the airport and met with a TSA supervisor.

“I think that it is really dangerous for the TSA to do anything outside of their very narrow job description, which is to ensure the safety of passengers from violent attacks,” he said, telling Yahoo Shine it was a “huge abuse of authority” for the TSA officer to be “telling a girl that what she’s wearing is something she should be ashamed of.”

Many of Frauenfelder’s nearly 24,000 Twitter followers weighed in on the matter, declaring:

  • “Wow. Give some people a uniform and, wow.”
  • “There is nothing wrong with what she has on. Something should be done to the security officer. Not their business.”
  • “Maybe the TSA can keep a stock of courtesy burkas on hand”
  • “They always make me take off more clothes. Who made them arbiters of propriety?”
  • “Wow. My flabber is gasted. What kind of pervert ogles a 15 y/o. Yeah, I said it!”
  • “American Taliban”

As WND reported in March, the TSA screeners patting Americans down and combing through their belongings don’t have federal law-enforcement training, may earn about as much as a McDonald’s shift manager and are not required to possess a high-school diploma or GED. Some have even been arrested for crimes including sexual assault of minors and possession of child pornography.

According to reports, TSA screeners have lammed a woman into a table, pulled an elderly man’s pants down, told a child to remove his leg braces, strip-searched a young boy and a forced a passenger to remove her nipple ring with pliers. One breast cancer survivor was purportedly told to remove her prosthetic breast.

A frequent traveler became so frustrated with TSA’s screening process that he removed all of his clothing for the procedure in protest of the “harassment.”

A recent survey conducted by Frequent Business Traveler revealed 90.8 percent of frequent fliers think TSA is doing either a fair or poor job of managing security screenings at the nation’s airports.

Shocking to see that those TSA creeps are able to use their own personal sick, twisted and deranged minds and fantasies to harass travelers!
It’s bad enough to know that they can watch people while they go through the body-scanners, but to be forced to listen to the sick mind of a TSA creep……..
That man was thinking about rape, abuse and other sorts of filth! Why would he otherwise tell the 15yo to cover up?

    The pervert!

I think this TSA guy was right – the girl is immodestly dressed and I would say the same to my daughters if they dressed like that. We are commanded in the bible to dress modestly so as not to cause offense . Dressing without modesty can have eternal consequences so lets have more TSA guys like this rather than the lewd ones who would have leered at her.

    • Master Adrian says:

And how decides what modesty is? You? A clergy? A vicar? A priest? A TSA guy? A book like the bible that was written by guys who till today couldn’t and cann’t keep their hands of little children?
Modesty is what a person self decides to be so… we live in 2013 mister Allen!
No longer in the Middle Ages!

It does not matter what era you live in – the judgement against semi nudity is fair – what would you think of a young man who went around semi exposed say to your children and others.

IF I had children I would have educated them in such way and manner that they would know that every person is wearing what he or she likes to wear, and and that if they would be offended by what your imaginary young man would be wearing they should accept it, and look away!
BUT.. I have no children, and will never have children… as I am a male and thus can not become pregnant…….

As to speaking in general… what I said about my supposedly off=spring….. is valid for everyone else (the “others” in your reply)!

And besides, it is not the task of any public servant to have comments on what citizens wear or not wear! This TSA-creep stepped over a line of responsibility and what he can and can not do!
In fact he raped the 15yo in his mind! His thoughts were perverted, he obviously had thoughts in his mind that equaled to what a rapist would think!
          And that is sick!
Yes, thoughts are free…… but keep them to yourself and not speak them when you are in an official capacity!

So you are so pure that you could look at female nudity and only think holiness – wow if only we all were as pure as you – even the real saints did not reach this level of holiness.
To attack this guy cos he says what her father should be saying is sick.

Who said that? That are your ideas and thoughts!
I did not say that I was “so pure”!
Of course I do have opinions about how people dress/are dressed… but I am not in a position to give judgement, and neither is that TSA-creep (or anyone else for that matter, including you!))
“Real Saints”….. you are of course aware that humans declared saint are declared that way by and through other humans… neither you nor anyone else if they didn’t do anything sick, perverted or foul…… And besides…. who are we humans to declare someone being a saint were we don’t know if god agrees?

And as to being sick… it is sick to defend a person with perverted thoughts.. the TSA-guy!

          • charles allan says:

You seem to be putting your own thoughts into the TSA guy’s mind – can you honestly say that your thoughts have always been clean and free from lust – what a paragon of virtue you are .
Judge not unless ye be judged.

Wrong… I do not put my thoughts in the head of the TSA-guy… I have no likings for a 15yo female, and no thoughts.

I do know that the TSA-guy did not consider the way the 15yo was dressed to be decent (to his personal standards!)!
What You or I think about decency or what is decent or not is something totally different from what this TSA-guy thinks and says…. as a guy in the capacity of being an official!
When and if he would have been there as a private citizen he would be free to speak out, no problem under the Constitution, as an official he has to keep his personal private opinion to himself!

That the guy in my opinion is thinking like a rapist is something that is my responsibility (I would not have him as an employee btw!), he should have kept his perverted thoughts to himself! THAT is what I am arguing!

And as to my thoughts being clean…. no, surely not! If I see a beautiful person I react…. by turning my head when that person walks by, by falling in love, by feeling the butterflies in my stomach, by not being able to forget that person for the rest of the day……..
BUT…… I am not an TSA-employee, and the TSA-guy in the article is allowed to have these thoughts…. provided he keeps them to himself as TSA-employee!

Judge not to not be judged yourself is equal to throw the first stone when you are without sin!

            And… selective quoting is sick…..

So adrian you have judged this TSA guy’s thoughts. When you finally meet the girl of your dreams we will see how you react if she dresses provocatively in front of other men – you have a lot to learn.

Charles Allan, it will highly doubtful that I ever will meet the girl of my dreams…… really it will :-{)

And probably yes to the assumption that I judged this TSA-guy’s thoughts……. and rightfully so I think! As a TSA-official he should have kept them to himself, if eh would have spoken them as a private person I would have reacted equally strong, his thoughts are perverted as he sees in his mind things happening to and or with the 15yo due to her way of clothing, it is obviously that he imagines in his head things and activities.

And yes, even at 60 one has a lot to learn Charles Allan, I agree, every day new things happen around me, and every day I encounter new astounding facts…….. for instance TSA-guys who dare state what a 15yo female has to wear……. :-{)

Good, we have discussed this enough, don’t you agree? We are clear were we stand, and we do agree we disagree, OK?
