The United Sates is using the purported beheading of American journalist James Foley to further intervene in Iraq and Syria, a political commentator says.
The video “has been used to justify Western intervention into Iraq” and Syria, Chris Bambery told Press TV in a phone interview on Tuesday.
He made the remarks when asked about reports that US and British special forces are on the ground in Iraq to, in particular, identify the so-called Jihadi John who beheaded Foley.
He also said that the US and Britain are seeking to find a humanitarian pretext to stay in the Middle East region.
“Britain and the United States are trying to find the so-called humanitarian way of intervening into the region,” he stated.
Bambery went on to say that the United States and Britain have been providing weapons to militants in Syria and Iraq.
“They were arming and helping arm some of these groups up until quite recently,” he said.
British Ambassador to the US, Sir Peter Westmacott, has said the countries are “close” to identifying the killer, believed to be a British man.
On August 20, the White House confirmed the authenticity of a gruesome video showing the execution of Foley by the ISIL terrorist group. The video shows a black-masked ISIL militant beheading Foley in retaliation for US airstrikes against the group in Iraq.
But according to a forensics expert, the masked man might not have actually beheaded Foley in the video. The analyst noted that ISIL terrorists possibly killed Foley off-camera and then staged the incident to make it look like an execution.
That beheading video wasn´t even a good fake. Sawing back and forth across the neck at least three times and no blood. BS. Notice the blood pack on top of his head? Notice the scars on his chin left of his mouth that weren´t there in the video? Notice how he was so much healthier after how long as a prisoner?
