i hate the concept of countries with independant leaders. countries create nationalism which creates the us/them split. we are all humans living on the earth. a country is an illusion in the bigger picture. we should drop borders and make countries managed as provinces with resources shared. rich countries will take a knock, poor countries would benefit. that is what will be needed to correct the imbalances in the world. the imbalances inspire war.

@108Dax You sound just a tiny bit like a misinformed youth. Of course we need borders if for no other reason than to teach us that we should learn to get along without killing each other.

@scuzzydirtbag Apparently the border lesson is not working. In the US today, would one state attack another? In Japan, would one prefecture attack another? They won't since they are goverened by a central government. If Japan and China merges then they would have a central government so they won't attack each other. Enlarge the process to planetary scale and there would still be ethnic/religious skirmishes, but large scale war would not break out.

@108Dax I wish with all my heart that you were correct but people fight people, cities fight cities and states have and do still fight each other. Perhaps some day?

The mobs wanted war, the mobs wanted peace. Their leaders profited by both.

1:36 This woman gives such an impassioned recollection. Almost sounds like something from one of those old movies.

In the Parisian footage around 3:00 there seems to be a lot of men of military age in civilian clothes.
