Officer faces aggravated assault charge

Amateur footage capturing the brutal arrest of a female San Marcos college student has emerged, along with gruesome photos of the woman’s broken front teeth following her encounter with an out-of-control police officer.
Earlier this month we reported that 22-year-old Lexy Alpha, a senior at Texas State University, was slammed on to the hood of a car, then to the ground by 13-year police force veteran Cpl. James Angelo Palermo in full public view after she made the mistake of crossing between his patrol car and a vehicle he had pulled over.
Alpha had reportedly only drank half a beer and was on her way to meet up with friends when Cpl. Palermo noticed her passing through and asked her for identification.
“I was like ‘I did nothing wrong, what did I do wrong?’ I was like ‘you’re just in a bad mood you’re being a d–k and you’re taking it out me,’” Lexy said in an interview with NBC affiliate KXAN. “And it was like hearing that word, he just snapped.”
Palermo shoved Alpha on to the hood of the car he had pulled over, apparently forgetting all about his initial stop.
“He grabs me and pushed me against the car and he grabs me by the neck and he throws me face down into the concrete,” Alpha said.
Photos released by Alpha to KXAN show the extent of the devastation wrought by Palermo. “She suffered a concussion, two broken teeth and bad bruising to her jaw,” reported KXAN.
As she was being handcuffed and led into the squad car, one of her friends frantically filmed the encounter on his cell phone. He can be heard telling Palermo, “Hey, you’re going to court buddy.”
In the video, Alpha can also clearly be heard crying that two of her teeth had been broken.
“I still get headaches, my jaw was hurting for a really long time,” Lexy says.
Alpha was charged with obstructing an investigation, resisting arrest and public intoxication, charges which were all dropped by the Hays County District Attorney.
Her parents were understandably furious with the officer for the devastation he unleashed on their innocent daughter.
“He didn’t have to go that far,” Lexy’s mom Paula told KXAN. “It was uncalled for. I was sad, I was hurt, I was angry.”
Lexy’s father Michael feels that the officer should have to endure the same physical trauma dealt out. “I don’t want to talk to him. There’s nothing kind that would come out of my mouth for him. I’d want to put him through the same pain.”
Palermo was placed on paid administrative leave on June 10, but was subsequently arrested on July 16, a month and a half later, on charges of aggravated assault by a public servant. According to jail records, he posted bail and was released the same day.
