This is a frightening example of how asleep our country really is right now. Even as history repeats itself only in another country, our population is focused on this "red herring" the government throws out "gun control". Our minds and hearts should be looking at what our government is doing in the middle east. Do you know? Until we remove these political ticks who's interests our not our own, we will continue to be sheep lead to pasture, while these fat cats control your every thought.
I remember hearing breaking news on the radio in my mother's car (not quite old enough to drive-I was 14 years old) of the August coup in the Soviet Union. Up until that point, I had always thought the cold war would never end in my generation, if ever. Seeing news footage of people dressed in plain clothes tearing down the Berlin wall was shocking to me and in some way I was confused about everything transpiring in what was then, the Eastern bloc. From my expirience growing up during the cold war, we were taught to fear the Soviets and condemn them as being a nation determined to rule the world under the banner of socialism. I don't subscribe that belief anymore, especially the notion that our foreign policies during the cold war were infallible. What really creeps me out about this movie everytime I watch it is how things could have taken a much more different direction and putting that into context of what my life was like back then.
Realizing the plausibility of the alternate historical scenarios depicted in this movie after I first watched this movie, I had quite a few disturbing thoughts for several days. I cannot imagine the how terrifying it would have felt sitting in front of the TV watching In Living Color or listening to the FM radio and suddenly having the EAS system kick in for a real national emergency facilitated by a massive incoming nuclear stirike. This and the movie "Threads" are truly scary movies indeed.
If you haven't seen them yet, I recommend these movies as well if you are interested in not only the cold war but nuclear war in general:
Threads
By Dawn's Early light
Testament
The Day After (1983)
Countdown to Looking Glass
There are others but these ones are my favorite. Thank you for posting this highly underrated film. Take care.
So this movie was created in 1985- 1990, YET Now it's 2014, And thier is tormoil and treachery a foot in the Ukraine. Perhaps things have come full circle or are about to come full circle, And this terrible fictional tragedy will become REAL ?
Actually this mocumentary is pretty good, but I would like to see a blockbuster movie that would depict this theme. A 200 million $ flick with actual order off battle and nuclear exchange. I wonder how come nobody ever tried to film something like that.
I wonder why the caption of this video says CLOSE to world war 3 when the original is World War 3? And at the end it wasn't close, it happened – the bombs went off.
