FEDERAL GOVERNMENT: American adults dumber than average human

It’s long been known that America’s school kids haven’t measured well compared with international peers. Now, there’s a new twist: Adults don’t either.

In math, reading and problem-solving using technology – all skills considered critical for global competitiveness and economic strength – American adults scored below the international average on a global test, according to results released Tuesday.

Adults in Japan, Canada, Australia, Finland and multiple other countries scored significantly higher than the United States in all three areas on the test. Beyond basic reading and math, respondents were tested on activities such as calculating mileage reimbursement due to a salesman, sorting email and comparing food expiration dates on grocery store tags.

‘Quite distressing’

The results are “quite distressing,” says Harvard University’s Paul Peterson, co-author of Endangering Prosperity, a recent book on education and international competitiveness. “Other countries have been catching up for some time,” he says. “At one time, we had a really significant lead, but those people are disappearing from the workforce.”

“Adults who have trouble reading, doing math, solving problems and using technology will find the doors of the 21st century workforce closed to them,” Education Secretary Arne Duncan says. “We need to find ways to challenge and reach more adults to upgrade their skills.”

Seeing as most American’s cannot balance a checkbook unless it is on their noses. Students graduating (if they graduate) incapable of reading over a 5th grade level and cannot write.
I actually read my grand children’s school papers and their spelling is horrendous, spelling is no longer graded unless it is a “spelling test”.
It seems that getting the letters in the correct location is not as important as simply making the words sound close enough to convey meaning. This is your schools today under Common Core.
Congratulations your student has graduated with significant skills to run cook grill and perhaps a meth lab.

Look up the designer drug Krokodil. That is your child’s future.

Every politician who has ever run for office promised to ” fix ” the educational system. What they delivered were significantly higher per-student educational costs, lower educational standards and an overall poorer quality education. One thing that is very telling is that home-schooled children tend to receive a higher quality more thorough education at a much lower cost than their counterparts in the public school system. Also, home-schooled children seem to develop better behavior and social skills than children being processed through the public education system. So how can it be that parents untrained in childhood education can generally educate their children better than government experts? The answer is direct parental involvement which strengthens the family bond, promotes better behavior and produces a much better quality education at a significantly lower cost to society.
