Alchemy is simply the ancient system of science that combined both the outer senses and inner mind in the observations of the natural universe. This became part of later gnostic tradition. In Egypt the symbolic language of hieroglyphs were supposedly the 'hidden language' of nature combining math, science, cosmology and 'higher' conscious. For example, Isis symbolizes the universe as the womb of creation, representing the feminine principle which "clothes" the essence of divine will or demiurge in physical form. This act of 'clothing' of the divine infinite will of the creative urge is the basis of their understanding of biology in nature which is based on the masculine and feminine principle. Another aspect is that Osiris is the 'great black' or the underlying substance of the universe as the black soil, seed or black substance or infinite mysterious substance from which all creation is born as symbolized by plants rising from the mummy of Osiris which is a symbol for CARBON (Carbon-12 666). This substance is carbon and from carbon comes all life. The word for this black substance (or the color black) was "kem/km", from which came the Egyptian name for their country "kmt" and is the root of the Greek, chemia and arabic alkimiya from which we get alchemy. And that is only a small part of the symbolic aspects found in ancient Egyptian cosmology. All of these traditions are the basis of early alchemy and represent thousands of years of human conscious evolution from ancient times concerning the 'nature' of life and the universe and mans place in it.
