Nikola Tesla is pretty much 90% responsible for how comfortable you are in your chair right now. Everyone should be shown his work, he was revolutionary. And besides being an electrical engineer, he was first and perhaps foremost a mechanical engineer. One of his patents is for a one-way valve- with no moving parts. Is it 100% efficient? No. But it works. His disk turbine was too advanced for the materials technology of his day (although it did work) but today you can use one to build an integrated turbine-generator. No, not as efficient as the huge turbines in power plants- but it has a much higher power to weight ratio, and is cheap and simple to build.
