Threats to Riot by Obama Supporters Reach Crescendo

Violent rhetoric being stoked by left-wing media figures

After weeks of threats by Obama supporters on Twitter to riot if Mitt Romney wins the presidential election, a modicum of media attention on the issue has done little to dampen the enthusiasm for mayhem, with the social network today being overwhelmed with more threats to riot.

Indeed, a rough estimation of tweets suggests that about two dozen threats to riot if Obama loses are being published on Twitter every hour.

The tweets below were all sent out within the same one hour time period this morning.

It is important to emphasize that such threats have been ongoing for weeks ever since the first presidential debate.

It appears as though the violent rhetoric has increased on the back of several left-wing media personalities openly espousing the idea that Romney and his supporters should be targeted for reprisals should Obama lose.

During HBO’s Real Time on Friday, host Bill Maher “joked” that Obama supporters would carry out acts of violence against Romney supporters if Romney won, a classless piece of satire given the fact that genuine threats to assassinate Romney and his supporters have flooded Twitter for weeks.

“If you’re thinking about voting for Mitt Romney, I would like to make this one plea: black people know who you are and they will come after you,” said Maher.

Newsbusters’ Noel Sheppard asked what the reaction would be if a comedian had “joked” about Romney supporters targeting blacks.

“Imagine for a moment the outrage if a conservative commentator said even jokingly to Obama supporters, “White people know who you are and they will come after you.”

In addition, a video ad produced by Michael Moore and MoveOn last week included an Obama supporter threatening to “burn this mother****** down!” if Romney won. As Breitbart.com noted, this and the myriad of other threats towards Romney have been largely ignored by the Secret Service.

Obama supporting media figures have accused Infowars, Twitchy and the Drudge Report of stirring racism merely for reprinting the offensive tweets. MSNBC political analyst Joan Walsh today accused Twitchy of engaging in “ugly racial paranoia.”

“It sounds to us like Walsh is suggesting that we should ignore riot threats (and perhaps assassination threats, too?) if they come primarily from “anonymous” African Americans. In other words, we should hold non-famous black people to a lower standard than we expect from famous people or white people. Who, then, is the racist?” asks a Twitchy blog post.

Despite the fact that the media reported extensively on threats made against Obama prior to the 2008 election, their silence on the threats made against Romney has been deafening.
