What Is The Best Place To Live In America? Pros And Cons For All 50 States

22

If you could live in any state in America, where would you go?  During troubled times like these, what is the best place in the United States to live?  A lot of people are asking these kinds of questions these days.  Our economy is on the verge of collapse, natural disasters are becoming more frequent and more intense, the U.S. population is becoming angrier and more frustrated by the day, our government has become incredibly oppressive and controlling, war could break out at any time and evidence that society is breaking down is all around us.  As our world becomes increasingly unstable, many families are considering moving somewhere else.  But what areas are best and what areas should be avoided?  Is there really a “best place to live” in America?  Well, the truth is that each family is facing a different set of circumstances.  If you have a great support system where you live, it can be really tough to pick up and move 3000 miles away from that support system.  If you have a great job where you live now, it can be really tough to move some place where there may be no job at all for you.  But without a doubt there are some areas of the country that will be far better off than others in the event of a major economic collapse.  This article will take a look at each of the 50 U.S. states and will list some of the pros and cons for moving to each one.

Not all of the factors listed below will be important to you, and a few have even been thrown in for humor.  But if you are thinking of moving in the near future hopefully this list will give you some food for thought.

A few years ago when my wife and I were living near Washington D.C. we knew that we wanted a change and we went through this kind of a process.  We literally evaluated areas from coast to coast.  In the end, we found a place that is absolutely perfect for us.  But different things are important to different people.

And if I gave your particular state a low rating, please don’t think that I am trashing the entire state or all of the people who live there.

For example, there are some absolutely wonderful people that live in the state of California, and there are some areas of California that I would not mind visiting at all.  But for the times that are coming I am convinced that it is going to be a really bad place to live.

Not that I have all the answers either.  Hopefully this article can get some debates started, and hopefully those debates will help people that are thinking of moving to another state to be more informed.

Who cares what that idiot says?? Every state has pros and cons, many more than mentioned. That is the dumbest way to rate states I ever heard of! Wow! And it is SO obvious that the one that wrote it is a snobby, self-righteous bigot who hates blacks and gays, and believes all the stereotyping. Even before I got to the next state, I knew which cities he was going to put down! Ignorance is bliss, I suppose. I pity him for his persnickedy attitude and close-mindedness.

California is not the same as before. I live in Orange County, Huntington Beach 2 miles from the ocean since 1975. Things have changed and I only see worse in matter of time it going to be like in Los Angeles. California is always a Liberal and a welfare state near border of Mexico and just a short time away from beeing like Detroit. I am moving out from California less than 2 years to Idaho. My grade to California is F-.

Michigan gets a D-?!?!?! A lttle harsh i mean Detroit is one thing but the rest of the state is completely different have you been to the West side of the state?! GR and its surrounding area is very safe….True our job situation still isnt great but has gotten better since 2010….once winter is over we have pretty nice summers fall here is gorgeous spring is very green it can be cold yes but a lot of places are cold…..other than winter michigan grows quite a lot it produces most of the nations cherries grow lots of grapes in the Traverse city area so lots of wine the west side grows lots of apples, corn and blueberries as well as tons of other stuff…..It depends on where you live detroit obviously has lots of regs b/c they have all the unions comparatively West Michigan has almost none i dont think u were fair about MI grade.Michigan is great place too live its beautiful and very outdoors-family oriented has good schools and honestly is just way different from Detroit/flint you really need to visit the state outside of Detroit im sure you’ll as a whole is MUCH better than as its made out to be politics in my opinion shouldnt be a part of the criteria of this list b/c your political view seem to be a part of this.

Oh give me a break, the Redskins play there? The Ravens are a far better team and they play there. Looks like most of the list is repetitive crap for a lot of states. I’ve been to 45 states and some of the top choices here are the most boring places I have ever seen. Obviously whoever compiled this list leads a very boring, uneventful existence. Get a real life and then do another list

  8. Obviously this was written by a Republican, so because of the party bias, I don't think I could take the "facts" as very reliable. (Not that they would be any more reliable from one of Democratic bias. Neither party has, in my opinion, shown much honorability lately – like EVER!)

I live in Idaho, so really don't appreciate the A rating, as it will draw even more of an influx of out-of-staters, who will over-run the state with their bad influences along with any good that might come. I think everybody ought to just stay where they are and do what they can to improve their own state; YOU may be part of it's saving grace! But, if you leave, then you are betraying your civic responsibility. If we are all out to save our own skin, that doesn't show much nobility of character, now does it?

So Michigan gets a D-…….shows how clueless the person who made this list is! WATER!
NO EARTHQUAKES……..just wait and see…………jobs??? We must be talking about two different things?Northern Michigan, Northern Wisconsin and Minnesota are the SAFEST places in the U.S………you can bet your LIFE on it!

  13. First, I live in ID, so thanks for the A, however, Boise has had an influx of out of staters that want to change the area to be just like "home". There has been a large influx of people due to high paying jobs, which in this economy, are temporary. The people are great, sports minded and there is great access to fishing, hunting, sports, etc. and not too many dangers other than wildfires and drunk drivers. WY, you mentioned was flat and windy. You obviously didn't visit the northern areas which are blessed with soaring mts, rivers, and wildlife. As a native, one would do well to like sage brush and antelope, but hey, the lack of people is a huge plus and its one of the few states in the black due to its mineral base–so no income tax! Only danger is Yellowstone and all the phonies who have taken over Jackon's Hole.

This list is a joke. I just spent 5 months back in Alexandria / DC area. Rampant crime. Anything left outside is stolen, packages left at my door are stolen, credit card numbers stolen at gas stations, terrible food at the grocery stores, endless power failures (which ruin everything I bought at the stores), rude and belligerent people, even 55 year old women at the grocery stores tried to short change me at least a $5 bill as I paid cash to avoid more stolen CC numbers Water has a pH of 5.8, no minerals in it. Peers at age 35 talk about spouses that already have cancer. People at work seemed like they were brain dead (possibly due to lack of minerals in the water and pure shit quality food). Apartments in alexandria $2600 per month for a 2 bedroom, $1600 for a one bedroom, food for one $800 per month, and oh yeah don’t forget the 4.75% city of alexandria annual vehicle tax on top of state registration fees, the rip offs induced with the yearly state mandated inspections (get screwed for ball joints you don’t need). It was costing me $1,000 out of my savings to live there on top of my $70K per year pay check. It was cheaper for me to go to Arizona and not work than to work on the east coast.

  18. who ever the moron is that put this tounge and cheek crap together, has to be on some sick drugs. most everywhere is a great place to live. what’s makes a place hell on earth. are those who want to control one’s ability to live free. we have that asshole al gore in nashville and all those music people out there who must be on drugs(iilegal) for the strupid tuff they try and pass off as music. et al nasusum> i like nuck power plants i like have cheap electricity so do all the old people who would die off if they didn’t have. redo the list and be reallly truthfull!
