What The Heck Is This Terrifying Creature Found Under The Brooklyn Bridge?

truther July 26, 2012 45

photo posted by Gothamist’s Jen Carlson on Monday of a scary-looking carcass found along the East River had everyone rehashing memories of the “Montauk Monster,” another unidentified mutant animal that washed up on a Long Island beach in 2008.

The latest pictures were taken by Denise Ginley, who spotted the dead animal under the Brooklyn Bridge over the weekend.

So far, the best guess of what the creature might be include: a giant rat, a cooked pig or a small, bloated dog.

Will we ever really know?

Even Ginley told Joe Coscarelli of the The Daily Intel that the animal’s feet are “not pig-like at all.” She speculates that it could be a “monstrously huge rat.”

Check out the photos for yourself and tell us what you think.

Plum Island escapee. They are doing DNA stuff over there. I think some get out. Perhaps it’s a dog-pig.

Although it does seem like one of those crazy mutant animals that have washed up ashore in NY from that one island that supposedly ‘used to’ create weird things like this, the last photo reminds me of a Pit Bull dog – just like one commenter mentioned that the nose has obviously been rotting off due to the nature of the germs, etc. within the nose – along with being bloated from being in the water for who knows how long.

My guess is a Pit Bull dog that probably lost it’s fight to another dog via a underground dog fight and tossed over the bridge without cement slippers. Heh.

It’s most definitely a Nutria that has lost all it’s hair. They can get quite large and they live near water. It has all the distinguishing features of a Nutria.

I’d have to agree it looks like a dog, partially decomposed and obviously bloated, just like a human would bloat, its paws have lost all hair therefore look more separated and strange, but Id say nothing to worry about, apart from the poor animal.

I thought that at first too, but the feet aren't those of a pig.

A decaying mammal. The nose rots off pretty fast owing to the concentration of bacteria. The animal probably drowned and had been on water for a while giving the loss of body hair. My a guess a dog or a raccoon.

Is anyone thinking logically here? The easiest way to find out is check out its teeth. Different species have different dental anatomy…

The upper jaw is missing, so it won’t be easy to identify using teeth.
