The Japanese were first on Guadalcanal. They were trying to build an airbase on the island, sort of like an unsinkable aircraft carrier patrolling the Coral Sea. We landed, took the airfield, finished the construction (over a few months of fierce jungle fighting), and were able to keep the island while simultaneously keeping Japanese reinforcements from arriving and thus starving what few troops the Japanese still had there.
You forgot to mention that the Battle of the Coral Sea was aimed at protecting Australia and checking the Japanese advance south.
Australians also fought in Papua.
As we now know, The Doolittle Raid influenced the Japanese to go "all in" at Midway. Thus, while it wasn't intended that way, the Raid proved to be "strategic."

The Battles in the Solomons (Savo Island, Cape Esperance, Naval Battles of Guadalcanal I & II, Tassafaronga) occurred over the period from Aug to Nov 1942.
That should be a "highlight"… That it was a series of battles, and not "One."
1942: Turning point.
Although Allied forces suffered set backs they recovered to on the offensive and win on all fronts.
Midway basically guaranteed American , Allied Navy supremacy in the Pacific.
Japan forces simply overwhelmed
The Axis had to be deep down over whelmed by just how outnumbered they were. It had to be a lot of stress to process and yet they started out winning the war. It's amazing what they were able to do before it all came crashing down. Sort of gives you a respect for them in an odd way.
With all due respects to the author there are some points that are missed in this clip. The reason the Battle of the Coral Sea was considered an American victory is that the US had repelled the Japanese from their attempt to close off the sea lanes to Australia who was considered a major ally of the US. Also, while the battle of Midway was a definitive victory for the US the deciding factors included not only 4 first line Japanese carriers but also all of the aircrews that were lost.
The battles around and on Guadalcanal were a true milestone. The US pilots and the Marines decimated the Japanese forces at Guadalcanal. The US downed significant numbers of Japanese fighters and bombers and really ground down the air power from Rabaul. Also, the Marines delivered a decisive victory over the Japanese soldiers on Guadalcanal as well. There were some Japanese Naval victories around Guadalcanal but the US Navy held their own and won several decisive naval battles as well.
Based on historical perspectives at the end of the Guadalcanal campaign this was the first time the Japanese military leaders first began to contemplate losing the war against the US. At no point after Guadalcanal could the Japanese actually threaten the US again although that was not clear to the US military until after the Battles of Leyte Gulf.
Wonder why other countries didn't use Kamikazis.
