LOL, I'm not sure how old the character is supposed to be but Dan Stevens is only 30. Plus, just because he's unmarried doesn't mean he's supposed to be a virgin. People still had premarital sex then; it just wasn't discussed in polite society!
Why is everyone talking about Matthew's supposed virginity? Is that a topic that actually comes up in season 3? Because plenty of unmarried men were not virgins even in those days. I agree totally about PBS's stupid editing and making us wait until January. But I like Daisy! Strallen has such a kind face and I hope he and Edith get together.
You must have tuned in when PBS was re-airing season 1 but they definitely aired season 2 on PBS stations all over the US last winter.
I see
I love this show!!
Interesting attitude the Dowager Countess displays toward Americans considering her son married one in order to keep and maintain the home she lives in. Maggie Smith is grand. The arrogance and disdain fairy drips off her like juices off a well basted turkey. Even if her contempt is, all things considered, wholly unfair and unjustified
it all comes down to money. BBC America is on pay cable, PBS has to rely on donations for a large part of its income.
Can someone help me? I have DISH and I'm not sure what channel I would have to view for this? TIA 🙂 I live in the Midwest…
I missed it… couldnt find it
Show sucks…a bunch of rich snobs and servants..How many times can the Brits keep recycling the crap..
If people want really good comedy, it is not Monty Python, of which you have to get into some surreal mood to understand. I never laugh as often, or hard, as when I'm watching Downton Abbey. It's pure comedy!
It goes without saying the writer, *Lord* Julian Fellowes, KNOWS his subjects first hand & is an exceptional writer, & he writes the script w/ his tongue half firmly planted in one cheek. The chief & the OLD matriarch, for example, have the best one-line quips, EACH in her "own world"!
He knows first hand what it was like to be an English aristocrat 100 years ago?
No, he knows first hand what is LIKE to be an "upper class" Brit, TODAY.
He is a "family friend" of the owners whose giant structure this soap opera revolves around, a family who traces its ancestors back many generations.
Lest you forget, the wrtier, Julian Fellowes, is a "LORD".
These folks are quite funny; but they take their titles & station in life, privileges & manufactured ettiquette, & inbreeding activities & history very seriously, as the show portrays.
Hence, their comical state.
does anyone know where i can watch the show online? i missed the first couple of episodes…
watch it on PBS.com
If you go to Hulu.com and get the plus service which is only about 7.00 a month you can watch the first two seasons and get caught up. It's well worth it, and you will be hooked! That's how I got hooked on this series. Now the PBS has a web site where you can watch the shows for the season 3, I've managed to watch season 3 and the third episode. I am so hooked, I check back every day for the next one. It's like Upstairs Downstairs with a real edge to it.
I love this show so much. The stars of this series really know how to perform.. And when Sybil was saying goodbye, OH!!, my heart and eyes were in tears….Wow!!! Thank you PBS for this show……Thank you so much….Wow!!!!!
when is season four?
