Yes, a lot of his songs are like that. Bit more complex than the witless pointing and laughing you get from… some people (no n. no p.d.).
From what I've read (I wasn't around back then) people regarded nuclear war as if not inevitable, at least extremely likely – this was only a few years after the Cuban missile crisis, after all. And perhaps it's relevant that Lehrer had worked at Los Alamos and knew that, contra some of the military people, a H-bomb can do quite a lot of damage.
Actually, according to Lehrer, many people feared that it may be possible, but few actually thought it would occur, because "Not even politicians are that stupid"
Oh, right. Like I said, I wasn't there, I've probably just been reading the wrong sort of book. Happy to accept the correction. Was this from an interview he did or what?
I can't remember exactly, but I think it's a video on 6funswede's channel. Try "Still with AND on Youtube"
You know, Shout! Factory didn´t want to pay for the rights to release the DVD in Europe. Get the free Mpeg Streamclip (for PC and Mac) and make your own PAL version if you buy the CD/DVD: It´s not very difficult.
Still can't find it, but I assume you're right. Thanks for the heads-up about 'Still with AND on' btw, it's lovely.
(Sorry for lateness.)
Unfortunately, this generation doesn't understand…"Good night David, Good night Chet"!!
Much less, "That's the way it is…"
I love his facial expressions while he sings!!! 😀
What a treat! My husband had his albums when we met, in 1963. Amazing how timeless he is.
How did you contact him to make sure you could post these?
i can twitter about world war 3 now, awesome
this will be relevant in the next 50 years or so I think (But not hope)
I didnt know they didnt have color tv in 1967. The more you know i guess eh?
If you like this, take a look at "Watch World War 3 on pay TV". Goes into the same direction.
This was his Oslo performance!
Great and thank you.
color television by that time..
what a future man hahaha he even created song for the future lol
cynical hipster asshole
Thanks so much to Tom Lehrer and whoever filmed and then posted the Copenhagen concert. It's wonderful!
i 1ce did this song way back in highschool for a talent show and won a prize. love this song, love this man! total total genius! thank you ever so much for putting them on so when my degenerative nerve disease is kicking my ass, i can flick to this channel and not have to drag myself over to the stereo cabinet (and on the REAL bad days you can take that literally. care to go for a crawl anyone?) to lift my spirits!
We'll eventually be singing this when England leaves the EU.
